Why is my SASSA payment late?
Last reviewed: 5 November 2026
Most late payments have a simple cause. Work through these in order before you queue at an office.
1. Check the date first
Pay days can move — in November 2026 they moved earlier because of the elections. Compare with the current month’s dates.
2. Your SRD month is still “Pending”
No money is sent until a month is approved. Pending usually clears within days. Check the official status page.
3. No pay day is showing yet
An Approved month without a date means payment hasn’t been scheduled. It normally appears later in the month.
4. Bank details not verified
If the account isn’t in your name or details are wrong, payment fails. Update your bank details on the official SRD site.
5. Your bank is still processing it
After the pay date, banks can take 2–3 working days to show the money. Weekends and public holidays add time.
6. Your grant is under review
SASSA reviews some grants. If you received a review letter or SMS, respond by the date given or payment may be held.
7. A month was declined
A declined month is not paid. If you think it’s wrong, appeal within 90 days.
